Road toll
Sir, —Again we have a spate of road deaths, and as this seems to be heading for a record year, I have an idea that seems realistically feasible to halt this rise. How
about erecting an A.A. sign or notice at every accident fatality corner, etc., on a road to bring home to the public the real danger of driving dangerously? A sign could read “Dangerous Crossroads, Three Fatalities, 14.11.72.” I admit this might hurt associated people; it could be of great benefit in restraining others. I would be very interested in hearing, through the press, comments from the authorities.—Yours, etc., R. J. LOCKWOOD.
November 15. 1972. [Mr J. F. Thomas, regional director of the Ministry of Transport in Christchurch, replies: “I thank the correspondent for his suggestion and I will forward it to the Ministry’s head office in Wellington for further consideration.”]
