Care of handicapped
Sir,—ln an article in your paper on November 28, headed “Responsibility for the handicapped,” Mr M. G. Ahrens says: “Nothing is being done to train specialist staff for the handicapped (apart from training officers in some psychopaedic hospitals).” We would like to point out that training officers are only a small part of a specialised team in these hospitals. No mention was made by Mr Ahrens of the psychopaedic nurse, who trains for three years and a half in this field in order to care for and train the handicapped.—Yours, etc., K. WILLIAMS. L. STANWORTH. November 28, 1972.
