Liquor poll

Sir, —Very heavy expense is entailed in coping with the treatment and care of alcoholics. The cost is not only borne by hospital boards through taxation, but also by the Salvation Army and kindred organisations. I suggest that it would be only fair if the liquor trade met these costs by a levy of, say, one cent on every quart of beer or bottle of spirits sold. —Yours, etc., SEMAE. December 5, 1972.

Sir, —Linda Mercier asks for freedom for all. Does she mean freedom to kill and maim on the roads? Freedom to use money on alcohol that is needed for family use? Freedom to ruin one’s own health and be a drain on State funds? If people are not capable of self-control they must have restrictions. We all agree that the present voting paper is inadequate, but while it is our only protest as a nation, let us use it to show our rebellion against the ways of foolish men. In three years, let women unite and show the nation we are for right living, good health, and safety. —Yours, etc., FACE FACTS. December 6, 1972.
