GOLDEN KIWI GRANTS
Welfare groups get $154,865 Forty-nine grants totalling $154,865 have been distributed to welfare services during the first six months of this yean from the profits of the Golden Kiwi lottery. Grants to national organisations included: Prisoners’ Aid and Rehabilitation Society, $37,000; National Marriage Guidance Council, $30,000; King George V memorial health camps, $25,000; Seafarers’ Welfare Board, $10,000; Society of St Vincent de Paul, $7000; Cancer Society, $7000; Federation of Societies for Protection of Home and Family, $5000; Plunket Society, $3750; Family Planning Association, $1200; Friends of the Deaf, $1000; Association of Child Care Centres, $250; Blind Indoor Bowlers’ Association, $250; Howard League for Prison Reform, $5O.
Grants to local organisations within “The Press” circulation area included: Buller Hospital Auxiliary, $200; Nelson Mayoral Relief Fund, $200; Nelson Day Nursery Association, $140; Nelson Community Advisory Service, $lOO.
