Nursing lecturer named
Miss Nancy J. Kinross, I assistant director of the hospital nursing service in the Division of Nursing of j the Department of Health, has been appointed as Massey University’s first lecturer in nursing studies. Nursing studies will be introduced initially next year as a social sciences unit, but expansion into a full diploma course is planned. Involvement in nursing education by the universities was recommended by the recent Carpenter Report. This appointment is believed to be the first of several similar positions in New Zealand universities. Nursing studies at Massey will provide further education for nursing tutors, general nursing specialists and those wishing to gain expertise in the administration and management of nursing. I nurse in 1952 and obtained the New Zealand Diploma of Nursing in 1956. She also holds a B.A. degree from Canterbury University and an M.Sc. in nursing from the University of California. Miss Kinross was awarded several overseas scholarships to continue her studies, including a British Commonwealth Scholarship in 1959, a Fullbright Scholarship in the same year and a Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship in 1960. She has represented New Zealand overseas at several congresses and is a senior executive of the New Zealand Nurses’ Association. She is the author of several books. Miss Kinross will take up her Massey appointment in January.
