Ouruhia Park

Sir,—During the last few months much work has been done to improve this popular picnic area and it is once again becoming a very delightful spot. However, while taking my usual walk last Monday afternoon, I was very disgusted to see large amounts of discarded rubbish, such as sweets and potato chip packets, cartons, paper, etc., scattered about, and I wondered just what type of people could leave this lovely park in such a disgusting condition. In this morning’s paper I read that the Canterbury Marching Centre held a grading day in this park on Sunday. This no doubt accounts for the white markings on the ground. Could it also, I wonder, account for the litter which I saw on Monday? If so, then I would suggest to the Canterbury Marching Centre that it hold another day at Ouruhia Park and clean up the rubbish.—Yours, etc., D.J.S. October 18, 1972. [The Canterbury Marching Centre was invited to comment on this letter. No reply has been received.]
