Baby lambskins

Lambskins for babies to lie on are becoming more and more popular since their introduction by the Christchurch Parents’ Centres several years ago. These are specially selected lambskins, officially endorsed by the New Zealand Wool Board, and they carry the Parents’ Centre stamp, says a news release from the centre. Some mothers, however, have been using the colourful sheepskins displayed in butchers’ shop windows, it says. “The Christchurch branch of the Federation of New Zealand Parents’ Centres feels that there is a need to explain to mothers who are thinking of buying lambskins for their babies, the very definite reasons why the specially selected lambskins are particularly suited to infant use,” the release says. “The lambskins used are from spring lambs carefully selected for size, shape, and fleece quality. The fleece

fibre has the ’soft ‘feel’ peculair to unshorn lambswool. ‘Positive sterility’ “The lambskins are tanned by a specially developed proces to insure that the skins stay supple, and the fibre secure — even after prolonged use and laundering. These lambskins are also clinically sterilized after being sealed in airtight polythene packs to insure positive sterility. “Briefly, the specially selected skins — processed and dyed to rigid standards —mean that the baby is safe with Babycare Lambskins. “Further information on lambskin care and use may be obtained by phoning Mrs Jan Allen (Phone 841-886),” the news release says.
