Major power boat regatta

Four Canterbury speedboat championship races will be included in a 14-race regatta to be held on Lake Forsyth on Sunday. Proceeds from the regatta will be given by the New

Brighton club to the 1974 Commonwealth Games fund. Some of the best speedboats in New Zealand, in hydroplane, racing runabout and outboard classes, have been entered. P. R. Knight, the former world title-holder, will have

two hydroplanes, Road Runner and Bel Air, on the lake. Both can do well over 100 miles an hour. J. Stokes will have Juelia, winner of three national titles on Lake Rotoiti, and one of the most reliable craft in New Zealand. N. Stuart, former racing driver, will be at the wheel of his new 1650 c.c., Fiat-powered hydro, Avanti. F. and R. Denson have entered Cost-A-Lott, holder of the Rothmans national 1650 c.c. championship, and the “King of the Lake” race for the eight fastest boats should be an exciting race on the tight course. A host of well-turned out and fast outboard runabouts, including G. and C. Cooke’s new craft, will contest the handicap races and outboard championships. Some big inboard skiffs, fast on the turns, will add to the attraction of this season’s first power boat regatta. The photograph shows Road Ruooec and Knight .
