New agricultural post in Paris

The representation of New Zealand’s agricultural interests within the European Economic Community and in international organisations will be expanded at the middle of this month when New Zealand's second overseas agricultural adviser takes up his post at the New Zealand Embassy in Paris. He is Mr A. A. Shepherd, an economist of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, who has been appointed to fill the post for the first three or four years. In contrast to New Zealand’s agricultural adviser in London. Mr Shepherd will be seconded to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His Paris designation will be First Secretary (Agriculture). He will assist in representing New Zealand’s interests in the E.E.C. countries with organisations such as O.E.C.D. and G.A.T.T., and with F.A.O. and other European-based international agricultural organisations. “Many of these organisations are working to develop

policies and regulations which affect the growing flow of trade between the nations of I our shrinking world.” said the I Director-General of Agriculture and Fisheries (Dr A. T. Johns). “It is essential that the representation in the enlarged European Economic Community of a country as dependent upon agricultural exports as New Zealand should be expanded to include an expert on our agricultural production methods, policies, and economics,"
