Obituary MR A. D. MACFARLANE

The death occurred in Levin recently of Mr A. D. Macfarlane, aged 76. He was on the staff of the Bank of New South Wales for 43 years, and held managerial positions in Hokitika and Ashburton. Mr Macfarlane was born at Cascade Point, South Westland, and began his career with the bank in Hokitika at the age of 18.

At the outbreak of the First World War he enlisted in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and served in the Machine Gun Corps. He was in hospital in England after extensive action in France, but eventually he returned to New Zealand and continued his service with the Bank of New South Wales. Mr Macfarlane served on the staff of the Lambton Quay (Wellington) branch, and was later accountant at the Dannevirke and Hastings branches. He held managerial positions at Taihape, and Levin, and retired to Levin in 1961. Mr Macfarlane is survived by his wife, three sons, and one daughter.
