Child awarded §57,000

(N.Z.P A -Reuter — Copyright) SYDNEY, Nov. 7. A child who was seriously injured when his mother was knocked down by a car the day before he was bom was awarded damages of $57,000 in the Supreme Court in Sydney. He is Dominico Fede, now aged seven, whose family came originally from Messina, Sicily. Mr Justice Begg said that the child had had his skull fractured and his brain damaged. His mother survived the accident, which occurred in 1964; Dominico was bom the day after the mishap, one month premature. Mr Justice Begg found that the defendant, Mr Mathew McNaughton, had not kept a proper look-out from his car, and therefore was responsible for the accident. The child suffered physical effects of brain damage, his intellect was impaired, and his emotional capacity was affected.
