Meeting on regional development
The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr N. G. Pickering) will be chairman of a meeting on November 15 to obtain action on regional development in greater Christchurch.
The meeting has been called by the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association, which has asked for concerted action on a regional development scheme, and invited Mr Pickering to be the chairman. The association has invited representatives of 15 local bodies and interested organisations, from Kaiapoi to Timaru, to attend. The director of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association (Mr I. D. Howell) said yesterday that he was pleased Mr Pickering had accepted the invitation to be chairman as his presence would be a clear indication that the meeting would be one calling for action in unison to plan a regional development scheme for the benefit of all the region, not just any one organisation or interested party. It would be one of the, purposes of the meeting to! define the “region" for the! ——————— Shotc Day mails No mail deliveries will be made in Christchurch on Friday (Show Day).
