SITUATION AT 8 P.M.

Pressures remain high east of the North Island. A depression is developing over the Tasman Sea and should move towards the South Island.

FORECASTS:

CANTERBURY AND THE KAIKOURA COAST.— Mainly mild, with moderate northerlies or easterlies; rain at times near the main ranges; high cloud elsewhere. MARLBOROUGH SOUNDS.—Moderate to fresh north-west winds: mild and humid, with occasional rain at first; brighter periods developing. CENTRAL MARLBOROUGH.—Moderate northerlies predominating; mild; a few showers near the main ranges; high cloud elsewhere. NELSON.—North-east winds predominating, mainly moderate; mild and humid, with occasional mist and rain at first; brighter periods developing. BULLER AND NORTH WESTLAND.—North-east winds predominating, mainly moderate; mild and humid, with extensive low cloud and mist: rain at times, probably heavy. SOUTH WESTLAND.—Moderate north-easterlies predominating; rather mild; occasional rain OUTLOOK; Rain at times in the west, mainly fair in the east, but a few patches of light rain.
