Diminishing in memory The Rugby commentator and former Wales fly-half, C. I. Morgan, makes an interesting observation on the legendary All Black full-back, G. Nepia. In a reference to the 1924 All Blacks, for which team Nepia played every game, Morgan refers to him as “the tiny Maori full-back .. Nepia, according to the New Zealand Rugby Union’s official history, weighed 13st 11b at the time of that tour and was sft 9in. He was the heaviest back in the team, heavier than six of the forwards, and the same weight as B. V. McCleary, the Canterbury forward who was also a heavy-weight boxing champion.
