Urgent request by N.Z.L.T.A.
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. B. E. Fairlie, and O. Parun may be prevented from playing for New Zealand in the Davis Cup next year. The International Lawn Tennis Federation has issued a 1973 programme which shows May 6, the date on which the World Championship Tennis circuit ends, as being the last day for play in the second round of the European Zone of the Davis Cup.
Fairlie and Parun are both committed to play on the W.C.T. circuit. The chairman of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association’s management committee (Mr I. D. Wells), said that an urgent letter had been sent to the I.L.T.F.
“We are asking the I.L.T.F. to allow us to play our match after May 6,” he said. “By this date, we are sche-
duled to play either Austria or Monaco. It will most probably be Austria. “If we can get it put back a week, we won’t be upsetting anybody. There are only three other countries affected by the W.C.T.,” he said. Denmark has T. Ulrich, the Netherlands has T. Okker, and Sweden has O. Bengtsson.
