Wool firm at Wellington

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 6. The minor dip in wool prices recorded at the last two sales, at Auckland and Christchurch, halted at the Wellington sale today. The official report said that compared with Christchurch, the market could be quoted as firm for fine and medium crossbred’shom hoggets, and fully 2| per cent dearer for mature wools in the coarser qualities. Only a small gallery of growers attended the sale. They showed little reaction to the prices. Most said afterwards that they had received about what they expected for their wool. The Continent, with good support from Eastern Europe, again dominated the buying. Some support came from Japanese interests.

The offering of 21,405 bales, drawn mainly from the Wairarapa, Manawatu and Rangitikei districts, comprised 40 per cent new season’s shorn hogget, 20 per cent ewe fleece, and 40 per cent oddments. The bulk of the wool opened up attractively and was of good quality, sound, and well grown. Some otherwise good lines were spoilt by being too mixed in quality. The ewe fleece was generally of good colour and style, although some lines were inclined to be short in staple length. The oddments were of good colour and there was a noticeable absence of stain and mud. Prices:— « o Fine Crossbreds, 48/50s: Good .. .. 140 to 146 Average .. 134 to 140 Poor .. 124 to 132
