Ward system ignorance’
The Women’s Civic Association believes that most Christchurch people are uninformed about the ward voting system. Mrs G. H. Morrisey, president of the association, said: “It seems obvious that the technicalities of the system—particularly if facilitated by computerisation — would involve increased expense. The advantages therefore would have to be appreciably greater to both citizens and council.” She said that the present council, which favours the implementation of the system, displays a “remarkable reticence” in acquainting the public of these advantages. “If it is a clearly beneficial move, it is time that the public was educated through a series of expository articles,” she said.
Projects for Marylands.— About $lOO was raised for the Marylands home by the schools’ project competition at Phillipstown School on Friday and Saturday. More than 300 entries from 37 primary and intermediate schools in Christchurch were displayed.
