Admission charges

(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) LONDON, Nov. 6. British Museum trustees have announced that they will follow the controversial Government policy to introduce admission charges without allowing one free day a week. The decision to introduce the charges as imposed by the Museums and Galleries Admission Charges Act of 1972, which does not allow for a free day, puts the British Museum in a different category from other national institutions, some of which have negotiated for a free day. The British Museum is not allowing for a free day because it is thought this could cause intolerable congestion. But it has reserved the right to abolish or modify the charges if they seriously affect the use and enjoyment of the British Museum.

It will continue to record attendances in order to compare them with results obtained before charges were introduced.
