A PRESTIGE EVENT
Entries from widespread parts of the country have been received for a prestige even in the Romney sheep section. Known as the Blue Ribbon class, it is for ram hoggets, and carries prize money of $lOOO. At last year’s Royal Show at Palmerston North, the event drew 135 entries, and the fact that it is to be judged at Christchurch this year probably explains the remarkable rise in entries — 244 compared with 78 at the Canterbury Show last year. Last year’s winner was shown by C. Burrows, of “Beechwood,” Culverden. It has been retained in the stud. The Blue Ribbon event was promoted to select the best ram hogget in the country, with a fertility potential of not less than 130 per cent. This year’s class will be judged by Messrs G. A. Mitchell, of Palmerston North, and W. P. Watt, of Invercargill.
