Four overseas judges
Four overses judges—one from the United Kingdom, and two from Australia—have been included in the list of 87 judges at the New Zealand Royal Show this week.
Judging the Welsh ponies will be Mrs P. A. M. Hambleton, of Montgomery, North Wales. Pony breeders and exhibitors have shown growing interest in the Welsh breed in recent months. A Christchurch breeder imported a Welsh stallion last summer, and steps have been taken to publish a stud book for the breed. Two Australians will judge in the sheep section. They are Mr R. Rollinson, of Concordia, Victoria, who will judge the Merinos, and Mr L. R. Hart, of Two Wells, South Australia, who will judge the Dorset Hom and Polled Dorset sheep. Australian judges have for many years judged the Merinos at Christchurch, while the use of overseas judges in the sections for Border Leicester and Polled Dorsets is now becoming more frequent The Dorset Hom and Polled Dorset breeds are among the most popular as fat lamb sires in Australia, and in the last two years there have been regular importations of . Polled Dorsets from Australia to New Zealand. They include sheep from Mr Hart’s stud. Mr Hart is prominent in local body affairs, and is a member of the South Australian Legislative Assembly. A South African, Mr A. Smith, of the Transvaal, will judge the Hereford cattle.
