Beef prices up
There are quite sharp increases in prices in the first beef export schedule for the 1972-73 season which was announced at the end of last week and which came into force yesterday. Prices are mainly from $2 to $3.50 pel 1001 b higher than those contained in the last schedule which applied from late in June. An industry spokesman said that the increases could be attributed to the much better market for hides—at the Auckland auction last week they were reckoned to have reached their highest level for at least 36 years—and the over-all sound market for beef. The new rates are: Y.A.Q. ox: up to 4201 b, $25 per 1001 b; over 4201 b. $26. Y.A.Q. heifer: up to 4201 b, $25; over 4201 b. $26. F.A.Q. cow: up to 6301 b, $24.50; over 6301 b. 524.50. Boner cow, ox and heifer: 1. $24.50; 2. $23.50. Overfat cow, ox and heifer: $l6. Boner bull: 1, $24; 2, $2B; 3, $27.
