The Press Presents Practical Photography
Above and right are two more weekly section winners in “The Press” photographic competition. For his very effective
photograph of a massive tombstone against a background of almost ethereal sawdust silos, Peter Scott of Carrington Street,
! Christchurch, used a Pentax single-lens reflex with 1 a 200 mm Super Takumar t lens. Giving four-times , magnification, the tele-
photo lens was set on f 5.6. If it had been stopped down further, the silos would have been much more in focus—and much less pictorial. The other picture is much more of a news photograph than a typical amateur print. It tells a story so completely that nothing useful could be
added by way of captic apart from the names c the mother and her year old child. The photographer was Mr J. W. Keilaway, of Maeroaßoad, Hamilton. Other entries in “The Press” competition will be published on future Practical Photography pages.
