Mr G. Kingston, who attended the recent conference of the Australia and New Zealand Grey, hound Association, was elected to the executive, replacing Mr J. Davis, of Auckland.
While in Sydney. Mr Kingston studied many of their tracks, mechanical equipment and lighting systems. The Christchurch club should benefit from his experience when it starts the Installation of a track at Queen Elizabeth H Park.
He also investigated ear branding and will recommend to the New Zealand council that immediate steps be taken to introduce ear branding.
The top Christchurch dog, Shantung (B. Cantwell), overcame difficulties to finish third in the invitation, stakes event at Inglewood at Labour week-end. But she showed her true ability wth an easy win in the open class at Auckland on Sunday.
Although that was Shantung’s first trial on the Auckland track, she recorded one of the fastest times of the season, and the prospects of her becoming the first Christchurch greyhound to win the Auckland Cup look very bright.
