UNION THREAT ALLEGED
(N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI, Nov. 5. A Portland cement works employee alleges that he and another worker have been threatened with expulsion from their union. Mr P. Benson, aged 31, who was bom in Canada,' said the Portland Cement Workers* Union had called a stop-work meeting for Tuesday to discuss the possible expulsion. Mr Benson said this was because he had pinned a notice on a bulletin board questioning the value of a recent four-day stoppage at the works.
He said he put the notice on the board to stir the conscience and reasoning powers of union members. Mr Benson said the notice had been read by few people, and had been removed by a company employee because it had been put on the board without permission. He said the other man was threatened with expulsion because he had torn up a political paper written and handed out by unionists from Portland during the speech by the Prime Minister (Mr Marshall) in Whangarei last week.
