Help for blind widow
Plans are being made in the Cheviot community to help the totally blind widow and the two children of a local fisherman, Mr J. McClintock, who was drowned in a boating accident on Monday. Mr McClintock, aged 42, a commercial fisherman, perished while fishing alone near Gore Bay. His body was found by relatives on Wednesday. Mr McClintock was widely known in the Cheviot district. He was bom there and his voice became familiar to most people as operator of the manual telephone exchange until it was converted to automatic in 1968. Mr McClintock had also been a foreman for the North Canterbury Naselia Tussock Board. Though blind Mrs McClintock is an outstanding pianist, and entertains regularly in the district.
