WOMEN’S MATCHES

Christchurch West retained Its lead In the women's senior softball championship with an easy victory over Bumside on Saturday, helped by a second Innings which produced eight runs. Monowai scored steadily in its game against Spreydon and holds second place. Results of Saturday’s matches were: Christchurch West 13, Burnside 1; Monowai 12, Spreydon 1. CHRISTCHURCH WEST v. BURNSIDE Burnside batted first but in Its first three innings R. Stinson struck out five batters and the only player to make base safely was J. Kilburn on a walk. Errors and a good hit by K. Noonan enabled R. Stinson to score In West's first innings. Stinson, S. Constable, E. Ching, Noonan and V Chambers batted strongly In the second to put the result beyond doubt. The side added a further two runs In the third with Noonan,

Chambers and C. Quested prominent.

A. Borlase scored Bumside , only run of the game in the fourth when she made base on error. West maintained Its batting pressure in the fourth with Constable, Ching and Noonan prominent- in scoring another four runs West did not take its fifth bat. MONOWAI V. SPREYDON B. Thomson scored first for Spreydon, but hard driving batting forced errors in the Spreedon field In Its second innings and helped Monowai score Rs first two runs through S. Blead and R. Phillips. Monowai’* N. Beale scored in the third innings and five runners scored in the fourth after a good hit by A. Phillips R. Phillipa featured in a triple and double play in Spreedon’s next two innings to prevent that side from scoring, then A. Phillips and B Tuibott In the fifth, and B. Maklnson and M. Eaton in the sixth, scored for Monowai to end the game with a 10 run adeantage
