Workers to return
Workers at the Whakatu freezing works, Hawke’s Bay, have been advised by their union to return for work today, although it is likely that they will not be employed. The secretary of the New Zealand Freezing Workers’ Association (Mr F. E. McNulty) said last evening that the union wanted the dispute —about the employment of women on the viscera tables —referred to the Freezing Works’ Industrial Disputes Committee, but this could not be before Wednesday. The employers had sought a meeting yesterday.
The union had recommended to its members that they return to work today but the employers had informed him through the Labour Department that the men would not be employed, Mr McNulty said.
