Shooting in Ashburton
A man is in the Ashburton Hospital after being shot in the head last evening in a house in Princes Street, Ashburton. Police were called to the house at 9.28 p.m. They subsequently arrested a 17-year-old youth who will appear in the Ashburton Magistrate’s Court this morning in connection with the incident.
The police also took possession of a 22 calibre rifle. The name and other details of the victim were being withheld by the Ashburton police late last evening, but the Ashburton Hospital authorities said he was “comfortable.” He had not been operated on.
The Christchurch Armed Offenders Squad was alerted but a youth was arrested before the squad was sent to Ashburton.
