Radio boom
More than 820 million people across the world now own radio sets. This figure, which does not include 60 million “piped” service sets, is revealed by 8.8. C. External Services Audience Research. There is now a radio set for every four people in the world. In many countries the radio has become an open window on the world to millions of people previously deprived of instant information and entertainment The total of radio sets shows an increase of nearly 40 million over the previous year — evidence of the continuing transistor radio explosion. Television, too, has leapt forward—from 273 million sets at the beginning of last year to 288 million sets at the same time this year.
