FOR YOUNG READERS
BLUE BABBY, by Catharine Cookson (published by Macdonald) has not much to recommend it. Fifteen-year-old Rory McAlister, apprentice wheelwright from Durham, is plunged into unwilling alliance with smugglers operating from the Channel Isles. Casual mention is made of social problems prevailing in 1851. INDIAN OCEAN TREASURE. by Arthur S. Clarke, published by Sidgwick and Jackson, is an unremarkable book except for the actual fact of finding treasure which it describes. First published this year, it tells a story that happened some years ago: the boys in the cover photo are now young men. The author, making a film about the underwater exploration of two boys at an island off Ceylon, is witness to the discovery of a wrecked ship, which is found to have been carrying coin. Photographs enhance the narrative.
