Softball man to transfer
Softball in Auckland should benefit from the transfer of the Wellington administrator and former New Zealand representative, Mr K. Gerrie, early next year. Mr Gerrie fashioned an imposing record between 1951 and 1967. He appeared at first base for Wellington in 156 matches, was chosen in the national squad four times and played in three inter-island fixtures.
During his term in firstclass softball Mr Gerrie won four Beatty Cup (inter - provincial) medals and three John Lennon (inter-club) medals at New Zealand tournaments. A member of the Miramar club throughout his career, he served on its committee for 15 years and has been a member of the Wellington association for the last decade.
When Mr Gerrie moves to Auckland he will be returning to the scene of one of his most memorable triumphs. In the final of a John Lennon series at Carlaw Park nearly 20 years ago, Mr Gerrie hit a massive home run into the grandstand — for many years this was regarded as the longest hit in New Zealand softball.
