Man gaoled for 4 years
(N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Nov. 3. A 33-year-old Christchurch man, Edward Laurance Barkle, was sentenced to four years imprisonment by the Chief Justice (Sir Richard Wild) this morning, when he appeared for sentence in the Invercargill Supreme Court on 16 charges. He had earlier pleaded guilty in the Gore Magistrate’s Court to 12 charges of false pretences, three of attempted false pretences, and one of credit by fraud. He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence by Mr T. G. Maxwell, S.M. He was also ordered to pay restitution of $404.61.
