Deadlock in dispute
ffi.Z. Press Association! WELLINGTON, Nov. 3. An offer by the employers in the Whakatu freezing works dispute has been rejected by the union. It is expected the men will not resume work on Monday. The employers today offered the union first priority on new jobs to all men displaced by work now being done on the viscera table, the remainer of vacancies to be filled by males or females at the discretion of the employer. The union rejected this and a further offer to hear the dispute, which has been referred to the Freezing Works Industrial Disputes Committee, on Saturday or Sunday in Hastings or Christchurch.
The executive officer of the Meat Industry Employers (Mr J. Murray) said tonight the employers were “extremely disappointed” that the talks had deadlocked. He said union officials had declined a request from the employers to tell union members of the employers’ offer.
