Road deaths
WELLINGTON, Nov. 3. Up to noon 583 traffic deaths this year had been reported to the Ministry of Transport. At the corresponding time last year the total was 546. The toll this month was two compared with none at the same time last November. There have been 34 road fatalities in the Christchurch metropolitan area so far this year, compared with 28 in the same period last year. A Transport Department spokesman said yesterday that no deaths had occurred on the road in this area this month, and that in the first two days of November last year the situation was the same.
