Britons’ basic pay-packet
(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) LONDON, Nov. 3. Britons’ basic wage-packet enjoyed its highest leap of the year in September — and the number of days lost through strikes reached a record level. According to provisional figures published by the Department of Employment, 1.59 million workers benefited from increases in basic weekly rates of pay, to the tune of £6.76m — well above the increases obtained in August, when the total Was £5.44m shared among 2.25 million workers. There were 246 strikes in September, involving 274,000 workers.
