Mediate’s connections to help
The owners of Mediate, one of the early favourites for the New Zealand Cup at Riccarton tomorrow, their trainer, C. B. Naden, and J. P. Riordan, who will ride the Takanini gelding in the cup, have offered their services for the charitable appeal in Christchurch today on behalf of the Marylands special schools at Halswell. Messrs Naden .. and Riordan visited Marylands on Wednesday and were so impressed with the work done there by the Brothers of St John of God, and the urgent need for financial support to keep the establishment open, that they decided to take part in today’s appeal.
Mediate’s owners, Messrs K. J. and W. A. Callesen, agreed to join their trainer and jockey when told by them of this deserving cause.
The four North Islanders will be stationed outside the shop of British Jewellers, at the corner of Colombo and Gloucester streets.
Messrs K. J. and W. A. Callesen (shown above, at left) will collect there between 1 pan. and 2 p.m., and Messrs Naden and Riordan (shown at right) will collect there between 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
