MOROCCAN TRIAL
Z P. A. -Reuter— Copyright) KENITRA (Morocco), Nov. 2. The King’s Prosecutor has asked for 14 death penalties in the trial of 220 Moroccan Air Force officers and men charged with conspiring to assassinate King Hassan by shooting down his aircraft on August 15. The bid failed. The prosecutor also asked for three terms of life imprisonment, four of 20 years, and five years for each of the reserve pilots and armourers at the Kenitra air base involved in the scheme. Among those for whom the death penalty has been de-| manded are Lieutenant-1 Colonel Mohamed Amekrane, the former deputy chief of' the Air Force, and Major Kouera E! Wafi, the comman-j der of the Kenitra base.
Both have pleaded guilty, and have also confessed to plotting to overthrow the King with General Mohamed Oukfir, the Minister of Defence and Army Chief of Staff, who is said to have organised the coup d’etat attempt. He committed suicide eight hours after it failed.
Others for whom the death sentence has been demanded are the pilots who participated with Major Kouera in the attack on the Royal Boeing 727 airliner, and who strafed Rabat Airport and the Royal Palace. Nine people were killed and about 80 were wounded.
