FORECASTS: CANTERBURY.—Fresh cool southwesterlies and showers at first; improving in the afternoon. MARLBOROUGH.—Winds tending south-west for a time on the Kaikoura coast but north-westerlies fresh at times elsewhere; scattered rain this morning, then clearing; mild. NELSON and BULLER.—Moderate to fresh northerly winds; rain at first but a considerable improvement from about midday; mild. WESTLAND.—Moderate winds tending westerly; rain at first but increasing fair periods. OUTLOOK.—Unsettled; periods of rain likely.
