McSkimming’s difficult year
“Trading conditions for our industry have continued to be difficult during this financial year to date,” say the directors of McSkimming Industries, Ltd, Dunedin, manufacturer of earthenware building products, in an interim report. “Costs have increased further, while there has been little buoyancy in house building in the area served by us, and markets for many of our products have remained in a semi-depressed state.
“At this stage our trading has resulted in an only very modest profit. This is not unusual for our company, profits in the main being earned mainly over the latter part of the financial year. However, much will depend on the buoyancy of our markets during the next few months.
“We are spending substantial money at both Abbotsford and Benhar, and expect that improved results will ensue. However, full benefits from these moves will not be felt until next year,” they say.
