Compulsion in U.K.
Seat-belt wearing may be made compulsory in Britain, the U.K. Minister for Transport Industries (Mr .1. Peyton) has warned. Speaking at a road safety conference, he said that the use of seat-belts couid have prevented 15.000 deaths and serious injuries on British roads last vear. ■•We are spending $750,000 this year to persuade people to wear their belts as a matter of choice.” he said. “If persuasion fails, then I think that any responsible Minister or Government will have to face the challenge of the lives which could so easily be saved.”
