/.V.Z. Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, November 2.1 The leader of the Liberal Reform Party (Mr C. S. Emeny) opened his election campaign by attacking the National Party’s election “bribes,” and by saying he was sorry for the Labour Party. Speaking to an audience of 11 (including two reporters) in a country hall near New Plymouth, Mr Emeny, candidate for Stratford, said Na-; tional had implemented so many bribes in its pre-elec-j tion Budget that Labour was! almost scraping the bottom; of the barrel.
The policies announced by] Mr Emeny call for a variety; of reforms, notably in law and order, industrial legislation. taxation, agricultural safeguards, and education. Until this was made law, they ..should lose voting rights, i passports, and unemployment . i benefits. >i Legislation should establish collective guilt for disIruptive groups, increase pen-
laities for group action, and .hold leaders or organisers of demonstrations responsible for the actions of their followers. He added that the party fully supported the invitation to the South African Rugby 1 team, and called on the Government to do likewise. On industrial relations, Mr Emeny called for a national ’ referendum on compulsory , unionism. “And we want 10 per cent of all union fees placed in a special legal liabilities fund to pay fines for ■ illegal industrial action and ; compensation for any resultant production losses,” he ’ said. On education, he called for ■ a greater accent on technical education, saying universities ■ were turning out more under- • graduates than the country could cope with.
