Trotting subsidies

(N.Z. Press Association) . WELLINGTON. Stakes subsidies in trotting were announced yesterday by Mr H. G. Callam, chairman of the Racing Authority. The subsidies will apply to all classic races and specified age races (semi-classics as defined in the rules of trotting). The scheme is dated from November 1 and will run until October 31, 1973. The amount Involved is about $40,000. Mr Callam emphasised the scheme was an interim one and disbursements from the stakes subsidy account, including subsidies for feature races, would be considered further during the present subsidy year. To be eligible to apply for the subsidies announced, clubs must provide a stake of no less an amount than was offered for the same race the previous year. All classics and specified age races will be subsidised up to a minimum stake of $l5OO. A special subsidy of $4OOO will be payable on each of the following:— New Brighton Trotting Club: New Zealand Oaks. Thames Trotting Club: North Island Oaks. New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club: New Zealand Derby Stakes, New Zealand Trotting Stakes. Auckland Trotting Club: Great Northern Pacing Derby.
