VACATION AT HOME
Swimmer’s plans Although he has trained in Christchurch since the start of the year, the Olympic swimmer, M. F. Treffers, will represent his former centre, Southland, at the national championships next March. Treffers, who came to Christchurch to attend University, has returned to Invercargill for the summer vacation. His training will be supervised by his father, Mr E. Treffers, and he will continue to correspond with Mr V. T. Parkhouse, his coach in Christchurch and the coach of the Munich Olympic team. Last season, Treffers had been training in Christchurch for several weeks before the national championships, but chose to remain affiliated to the Southland centre. It is not certain whether Treffers will return to Christchurch next year. At present he is corresponding with the American coach, Mr D. Gambril, for a scholarship at Harvard University.
