REDUCED AIR FARES
U.K. pilots anxious
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, Nov. 1. Cut-price air fares could result in an erosion of safety margins, and reduce some to an unacceptable level, the British Airline Pilots* Association says. Expressing misgivings about the possible consequences of reduced fares, Captain Laurie Taylor, chairman of the association said: “If carried to extremes, the trend is bound to adversely affect the profitability of airlines, and bring about a search for economy." “British pilots would strongly oppose any search for economies in the training of crews and the duty hours of pilots. It could have an early and adverse effect on safety,” he said.
