Fillies go to stud
Fairhead, winner of the Canterbury Challenge Stakes last season and Nana Mouskouri, which finished third, have finished racing and have been mated witn the Morwenstow Stud sire, Orbiter.
The winner’s share of the Canterbury Challenge Included a free service to Orbiter, but Fairhead’s owner, Mr W. Boag, Jun., decided to send the dam. Play Fairer, back to Fairhead’s sire, Fountainhead, leaving the daughter to go to Orbiter. Fairhead’s retirement from racing was brought on early because of leg trouble. ! Nana Mouskouri, a Greek God filly, won two races last season. P. H. Jones campaigned her in the North Island earlier this spring. Her best run was a fourth in the Masterton Lowland Stakes, won by Dhow. Arthritis in a knee has been bothering Nana Mouskouri and influenced the decision to retire her.
