Concert to be recorded

EMl’s top recording artists will feature in a concert to be recorded live in the Janies Hay Theatre tomorrow even* ing.

Included in the lineup of performers are Gold Disc finalists Quincy Conserve and Blerta, as well as the popular Dunedin group, Lutha, and New Plymouth songwriter, Desna Sisarich.

Quincy Conserve are in the Golden Disc finals for the second time in a row, this year with their hit “Roundhouse.” They are sure to be popular with Christchurch audiences in this their first performance here for more than two years.

Blerta made their name with a Christmas tour of the South Island last Christmas in the famous psychedelic bus. They will arrive in Christchurch on November 2 in the very same bus for a similar tour.

Their first performance of the tour will be at the Town Hall concert.

Although their hit “Dance Around the World” was released some time ago its popularity has been sufficient to warrant it a place in the Gold Disc finals and a subsequent revival of interest in this group which includes some of New Zealands best known musicians — Bruno Lawrence and Corben Simpson. Lutha were undeniably very popular at the recent “Rock ’n’ Stuff” concert and EMI believe they will become one of the biggest groups this country has produced.

Their performance in the November 3 concert will be their third in Christchurch.

Although Desna Sisarich is practically unknown in the South Island, she is highly respected by musicians and public alike in both her home town New Plymouth, and Wellington, where she now lives.

Her songs have won high places in Studio One two years running. Her composition, “I Thought He Was A Friend Of Mine,” taking second place this year. She is in big demand as a performer in Wellington and is looking forward to a memorable debut in Christchurch.

The sound system for this concert should be a vast improvement on that at the recent “Rock ’n’ Stuff” concert, as the new 400 watt public address system is now complete and in full use.
