Trek and fair
A sponsored eight-mile trek around the suburbs of Christchurch, a fair and a hangi, will be held on Satur< day to raise funds for the Intellectually Handicapped Children’s Society’s Canter.
bury branch. The trek will be started by Mr J. P. C. Blumsky, the National Party candidate for the Lyttelton electorate. Leading the trek will be Mike, a young cerebral palsy patient who attends the Avonside Centre, and who has become a symbol of the society’s need to appeal for and raise funds .... Mike will be pushed tn his wheelchair by one of the helpers at the society’s day care centre. The rallying point for the trek in Latimer Square will be the society’s distinctive mini-buses. The society's annual fair will be held on the same day at the Avonside Centre at 52A Cowlishaw Street. Apart from the usual stalls and side-shows, the fair will feature a hangi for 300 people, a large crane giving rides to children, and a fireengine, manned by volunteer drivers from the Christchurch Transport Board.
