INJUNCTION MOTION
Adjournment sine die
An application for an interim injunction against the board of governors of the Christchurch Girls’ High School, to restrain the board from suspending two girls who walked out of a school assembly last month because of an objection to its religious service, was adjourned sine die by Mr Justice Wilson in the Supreme Court yesterday after counsel for both parties said that terms had been reached between them. Messrs J. G. Leggat and S. G. Erber appeared for the plaintiffs, Wendy Rich and Helen Leonard, both aged 16, who applied for the interim injunction through their fathers, and Mr D. J. Clark for the defendant board. Mr Leggat said that the terms reached between the parties were that the girls would forthwith be reinstated at the school; that they should not be required to attend morning assembly; that they would not, pending the judgment of the Court, engage in any activity of the kind which caused the headmistress to take her initial action; and that the terms would not prevent any party from arguing the correctness of its legal position, if and when a substantive hearing took place. Mr Clark said that he concurred with the terms of the agreement, and asked that the motion for the interim injunction be adjourned.
