Thomas now to retire
<y.Z. Frets Assn — Copyright) ■ LLANELLI. W. D. Thomas, the Llanelli cap tain, who led his side to victory over the All Blacks yesterday, | afterwards said that he| would probably retire at the end of the season —I at the pinnacle of hisRugby career. “The team played magnifl-i cently. We won because! we stopped the All Blacks getting secondphase ball and kept the ball away from the back row where their strength is,” Thomas said. He thought the New Zealanders were still a very good side. “It would be unfair to criticise them. After all, the 1963 team lost its first match and went on to become a great side. They have a lot of good players.”
i Thomas, a reluctant hero, said that he had not wanted to take on the captaincy this year. “I decided to become captain because I did not want to let the lads down. We have a great spirit in the Llanelli side this year.” It was the first time this season that Llanelli had fielded a full-strength side, he added.
