Increase in fees
The Leader of the Opposision (Mr Kirk) said in an election address last evening that he had been told of a doctor who had recently increased his fees by $2.50 a consultation. He said that a pensioner had gone to the doctor and instead of being charged the previous $2.25 had been charged $2.75.
Asked why he was being charged $2.75 and what about the Remuneration Authority, the doctor was said to have replied that the charge was $2.75 because the patient was a pensioner. Otherwise it would have been $4.75.
The increase was apparently said to be outside the jurisdiction of the Authority because it had been decided on previously but not introduced at that time.
